Blue Ocean Jasper is a rare, orbicular variety of chalcedony found exclusively along the remote northwest coast of Madagascar. Its colours range from soft sky blue to deep teal, often mixed with cream, white, grey, and earthy tones. The stone frequently displays natural orbicular patterns, banding, and wave‑like formations created by rhythmic silica crystallization within volcanic rock.
The blue coloration comes from trace minerals such as copper or iron, which become trapped during formation. Like all Ocean Jasper, it is mined only at low tide from coastal deposits that are otherwise underwater. With a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, Blue Ocean Jasper is durable and ideal for towers, spheres, carvings, and decorative pieces.
